HISTORY OF OUR JURISDICTION
Welcome to the history page of the European Jurisdiction of The Church of the Living God International (CLGI). Our journey began in 1986 with a vision to spread the gospel across Europe. Over the years, the European Jurisdiction has grown from a single congregation in Germany to a thriving network of churches spanning multiple countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, and beyond.
This remarkable journey began, when Full Gospel Fellowship in Hahn Germany, sought assistance, reaching out to Bishop Joseph White. Upon Bishop White's return in the USA, after visiting Germany, he tried to find a committed individual to lead the European mission. In 1987, Elder William Lee III, Pastor of the church "Bethesda" in Warren Ohio, volunteered for the mission. He arrived in Germany that September and took over Full Gospel Fellowship. A few months later, his late wife Elder Melba, along with their children joined him in Germany. In 1996 he was consecrated as one of the first Bishops within the CLGI and became the Bishop over the European Jurisdiction.
The European Jurisdiction expanded rapidly; marked by the start of the first non-English-speaking church - Cross of Calvary, which mirrored the growing diversity within the congregations. This growth continued with the first church outside Germany in Amsterdam the Netherlands named "Zie, Ik maak alle dingen nieuw". Full Gospel Fellowship remained in Büchenbeuren until the closure of Hahn Air Force Base in 1992, which caused a move to Kaiserslautern and renaming the European headquarters church to "New Full Gospel". The impact of the European Jurisdiction grew remarkably, with the development of churches across Germany, including Unity and Mainz Worship Center, and expending into other European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. Behind this growth were dedicated Saints and many others who played crucial roles, laying the foundation for expansion in Europe.
Dutch/Surinamese members were important in breaking ground for the CLGI in Suriname, South America. Their efforts contributed to the growth of the church in Suriname and shows the power of unity and shared purpose in spreading the faith. Their journey involved laying the foundation for the gospel and inspiring believers across borders. This collaboration has borne fruit, resulting in 14 churches and counting, and continues to touch the hearts and lives of many in Suriname.
The history of the European Jurisdiction of the CLGI is a testament to faith, dedication and strength. From a humble beginning in Germany, to the expansion across Europe and even into South America and Africa. The journey has been marked by the tireless efforts of committed leaders and members who have shared a unified vision to: spread the gospel and build a strong community of believers. Built on years of steadfast leadership and commitment to the CLGI doctrine, the European Jurisdiction has been a strong and stable force within the Church of the Living God International. Our story is not just one of geographical expansion but of spiritual growth and unity, as we continue to spread hope, inspire faith, and make a lasting impact on the lives of many.
The legacy of the European Jurisdiction is still being written, and we remain dedicated to being a pillar of strength within the CLGI. Guided by the same vision and commitment that brought us where we are today. We continue to build upon the strong foundation laid by those who came before us, moving forward with a hope for spiritual growth and finding a home in Heaven.
We are proud to be the “I” in The Church of the Living God INTERNATIONAL.
